Valorant positioning for Silver players: 4 habits

A lot of Silver deaths aren't lost aim duels. They're fights you never had to take, in a spot where nobody could help. Four habits fix most of it.

1. Stay close enough to be traded

If you die, a teammate should be able to kill your killer right away. That only works if they are near you. Playing alone on the other side of the map means your death is free for the enemy.

2. Don't take fights you're outnumbered in

If you hear or see more enemies than you have teammates nearby, back off and wait for help instead of peeking again. One more peek into a 1v3 usually just loses the round faster.

3. Pick spots with cover and a way out

Before you hold an angle, check two things: can you step back behind cover, and can you fall back if several enemies push? An off-angle can surprise people, but only pick one you can escape from. Also check that your spot works with where your teammates are, not against them.

4. Don't hold the same spot every round

After you get a kill from one spot, the enemy will expect it next round and may clear it with utility. Move to a nearby spot or switch between a few. You don't need a new spot every time, just don't be predictable.

How to practice it

  • Next game, before each round, ask yourself: who can trade me if I die here?
  • On defense, pick 2 or 3 spots for your site and switch between them.
  • After a death, check one thing: were you alone, or outnumbered, when you took that fight?

Let Vetro check yours

Not sure if this is your problem? Upload a 30-second clip of a round where you died. If your position was the issue, Vetro will tag it as Positioning and tell you what to change. It's free, with no download and no Riot login. Also read the crosshair placement guide and the utility timing guide.
